How to replace a broken spoke

Yesterday I was doing some jumps on my lawn with the K2 Lithium and on my last jump I tried to do a little flair kick thingy and landed it the wrong way…sideways.

First I thought I just tweaked the rim, but later I found out I broke a spoke.

So I took it to Jax Bicycle Center in Fullerton and with the help of Service Manager, Ryan Crump, we were able to get me back on the bike.

First thing you have to do is remove the cassette for easier access to the spokes.

You’ll also need to remove the rotor if the spoke that broke is on the same side. Oh yeah, you’ll also need to remove the tire and tube.

Remove rim strip by using a screw driver to lift it up, then pull away.

Insert new spoke that is the correct size. Make sure you follow spoke pattern.

Tighten spoke.

True it.

Install cassette, rotor, QR, rim strip, tires and tube, then go riding.

Thanks to Jax Bicycle Center of Fullerton, Ca. and to Ryan Crump for all the help.
