Mountain Biking Videos 101

As you may have already noticed, I love mountain biking videos. With the advent of my DIY Helmet Cam, I’ve had some great fun with it.

However, there is one thing that I hate about mountain biking videos. It’s the guy that holds the camera. It could be your buddy, wife, girl friend…whom ever. These are the people that if something wrong happens they immediately put the camera down! I mean its great that they care and all that you got hurt, but I want to see the crash or accident in its entirety! I don’t want to see the ground or the camera person’s feet or knees. Dangit, I want to see all of it!

So here’s my tips on filming mountain biking videos. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m no film or art major. I’m also not some movie expert either. But I do know that I want to see good stuff.

1. Follow your subject.

2. Don’t film against the sun.

3. Film where there is ample light.

4. Last but not least, keep filming! Don’t put that camera down!

Check out this video, you’ll see what I mean. If you haven’t figured it out, that’s me eating dirt…Don’t worry, the bike was ok!
