On the XC course, poison oak is rampant on the singletrack. If you’re on singletrack, there’s poison oak. It’s fresh and ready to kill your skin. The key is to detect it and avoid it. Better yet, cover all exposed skin and burn/wash your clothing after the event.
If you do get exposed and get a reaction. Do not touch it! If it’s bad, go to the doctor and get some steroids. Cream, pill or shot will get rid of it.
