I always try to go with the best I can get for the amount of money I have (Duh right? lol) But when someone is buying a bike they don't really think about the fact that they can upgrade little by little if they want, or as parts break. I think sometimes they feel that whatever they buy they are stuck with until they can buy a whole new bike.

Another thing is that the rider (for the most part) makes the bike a good bike. For example, one of the top trials riders in the country went out and got a beater bike a real piece of crap and made a killer video of him doing stuff on this bike that I can only one day dream about doing. Yeah, having a nice bike is great but is is necessary? Uuuummm...personally...yeah...heh heh)
BTW. if you are interested in seeing that video I will see if I can get you the link.

Thats all sound advice

I would also add that often times jumping up to the next level of bike that it will also be lighter.

When you are just getting started you may not be in as good of physical condition as you could be so having a lighter bike will make you less fatigued when you ride. So you'll have a lighter, better performing bike that makes your riding experiences even more fun than they would be if you got a cheaper bike.
