If you do weights or a workout for the rest of your body, try doing it in the morning. I started doing my workouts before work and I don't need any coffee any more.

The crunch thing seems to work. As for the acidity in the coffee, try cold press iced coffee. It seems to kill the acidity and makes for a delightful drink in the morning that you don't have to worry about scalding your tongue on.

I have one cup a day but I can't drink coffee before a ride. Too acidic. I usually have oatmeal or a bananna. I hear apples are a great alternative to coffee though. The crunch wakes you up or something.
