Talking Shop

Posted by RL Policar On January - 30 - 2009

I work for a softball/baseball equipment company (don’t ask me for a discount). So we get tons of guys that come in and want to talk softball and how the latest bat is hot and how they hit it so far and yada yada yada. It’s basically talking shop, men love to do that and no matter what profession it is, guys will talk.

Well today, a customer came in and started talking about bikes. He knew I liked to ride, and he brought up how he’s selling his Santa Cruz because he wants to buy a new IBIS. He then goes on to explain the parts he has, (obviously he’s trying to impress me) such as Fox Forks and his favorite a “Mavic Hydraulic Brakes.” I just kept nodding and saying “uh huh” and “really”, “that’s cool” and I throw in the occasional courtesy laugh.

When I worked at an LBS, guys would do the same thing, come in “talk shop” and how they rode a certain trail and how they almost ate it and its always topped off with a story about taking a HUGE jump. There’s nothing wrong with talking shop amongst the fellas, but here’s a tip…“BE YOUR SELF.” No need to try and impress people, if you don’t know certain things, then don’t pretend you do, cus’ it will make you look silly. In fact, if you go in not knowing too much, you may actually learn a few things here and there.

How do I get arms like that?

Posted by RL Policar On January - 30 - 2009

Many of you may have noticed that Eric “The Animal” Hunner has some might big GUNS!

So wanting to have guns that can make Priscilla swoon at the sight of them, I asked Eric what he does for his workouts.

Basically he said, he is his wife’s slave…He’s Tim the Tool Man Taylor when he’s at home. He does anything from building entertainment centers (into the wall), fix cars/trucks, unclog the sink and a whole bunch of other stuff. But when he’s in the gym he’ll get on the spin bike and he’ll lift 25lb dumb bells. This happens for about 45 minutes. You can just imagine that if you’re lifting something for 45 mins, your arms would be worn out. There’s a whole science behind body building in which you have to make small tears in your muscle via lifting weights to make them grow. But since I’m not schmientist…I can’t really quote on that.

He also has a pretty good diet of turkey legs, large chicken breasts, rice and diet cokes. Combine his workouts, single speed riding and food intake, then you get The Animal.

Eric Hunner
I’m hoping he’ll leave comments on actual specifics of his workouts….Eric?

The lighter side of racing

Posted by Moe Ramirez On January - 28 - 2009

One of the things that I’ve enjoyed most about racing is hanging with my fellow team mates and racers, here are some pictures of the ‘lighter side of racing’:

David doing his impression of Captain Morgan, and a distracted cellphone texter that didn’t bother to see if I was taking a picture.

Hungry after the race.

Kim “chilling” under the rain.

David, doing his ‘The Moe’ impression

Eric, doing his Joe impression (inside Joke)

Joe,… self-explanatory

RL, showing his best side

Me, being a wuss “It’s just alcohol”

As you can see folks, racing is not just about the glory, fame, money but about the good times we all have.

Our good friends from PricePoint.com let us take some pictures of a pre-production Downhill bicycle.

As you can see, this bike was raced last weekend at Fontana, its talented rider took 2nd place on his first ever downhill race. Now, that’s pretty impressive!

We will be posting final specs and pricing soon, but let’s just say that this bike will be very affordable and will have decent parts like the RockShox Boxxer Race fork , e-thirteen chainguide, Hussefelt Cranks, and a RockShox Vivid rear shock.
