This month we are featuring the Safe-T-Seat from iBert. It’s a new and better way to take your little tike for ride. Long gone are the days of having your child watch your backside as you go for a ride. With the iBert Safe-T-Seat, your little tike will have the same view as you.

How does it work? The child seat attaches to the steerer tube of your bike. Safe-T-Seat attaches to a patented stinger mounting system. The stinger clamps onto the steered tube between the headset and the stem. (You’ll need at least ¾” of clearance in this space)

The installation was very easy. It took me less than a minute. The Safe-T-Seat slides on and off the stinger. It is secured with a pin.

Your child is secured with an overhead harness and pivoting lap bar. Once these are secured, you are ready to roll.

Will it fit your child? The safe-T-seat is designed for children age 4 and under. The minimum age is 12 months as the child needs to be able to sit up well and hold the weight of a helmet on his/her head. The maximum height of the child that can use the safe-T-seat is 42 inches. Kids much taller than that will be uncomfortable. The recommended max weight is 38 lbs. Above 38 lbs and the maneuverability of the bike may be affected.

The ride: I mounted the Safe-T-Seat on my Intense 6.6. The ride wasn’t as comfortable as I wanted it to be. The cockpit on my 6.6 is a little too short where my knees were slightly hitting the back of the seat.  The ride was still fun however.  With the Safe-T-Seat mounted I was able to reach the brakes/gears like normal.   We rode on the streets and down to the park. My son defintely enjoyed the ride. With the Safe-T-Seat you can easily interact with your child (as oppose to having him/her sit behind you).

I’ve yet to mount the Safe-T-Seat on another bike where the top tube is a bit longer. I look forward to our next ride. Remember to always practice safety and have you child wear a helmet.  Choose your ride wisely, rememer you have your young one with you.  Save technical fun rides for yourself :)

The iBert Safe-T-Seat retails for $94.95. For more information, goto www.ibertinc.com
