Hey Trail riders, did you know that you were breaking the law in California because your bike has no seat??? Well, I have good news for you seat-less riders, starting January 1, 2010 it will be legal to ride your bike!

Bicycles (SB 527, Kehoe) This new law allows a person to ride a bicycle without a seat if the bicycle was designed by the manufacturer to be ridden without a seat.

Ride: 12-28-2009 Santiago Oaks Solo Ride

Posted by Moe Ramirez On December - 28 - 2009

I’m one of those fortunate souls with the week off from Christmas to New Year’s and decided to take advantage by getting in a ride today.  I hate riding alone, but I couldn’t conjure anyone up for a ride this afternoon and I’ve also been meaning to go to The Path bike shop in Tustin for a few weeks to exchange some parts.  So I decided to knock a few couple things off the to do list, loaded up the truck, ran a couple errands, headed over to the shop, and finally to play at Santiago Oaks.  I was hoping to capture some more video on the Vholdr ContourHD 1080p.  I took some video with the point-and-shoot and hoped to edit it with the helmet camera video to make a sick video.  Unfortunately, in a bone-headed move, I didn’t charge the ContourHD.  Since I had some time to kill, whilst doing laundry, I decided to throw together a little video of the point and shoot footage.  Santiago Oaks was in pretty good shape today, a few new ruts have formed from the rain, but for the most part, traction was excellent.  The sun was shining and a slight breeze kept the sweat at bay.

I know this is just footage of an average joe, riding a typical trail, but take it for what it is, and ENJOY!

First Impression: Vholdr HD Vented Helmet Mount

Posted by Moe Ramirez On December - 27 - 2009

Vholdr Contour HD Vented Helmet Mount in Box

Here are MtnBikeRiders.com we’ve been tasked with testing the Vholdr Contour HD 1080P camera, and though the initial impressions are awesome, the lack of a vented helmet mount left a bitter impression in the staffers minds. The goggle strap that comes with the camera is awesome, relatively secure and adjustable. The rub was, just how often does a mountain biker wear goggles? For most of us, that’s during DH shuttle runs and maybe free-riders. Here in sunny so-cal there just aren’t that many shuttle runs to explore and most of which could be ridden comfortably on a 6″ all-mountain bike.
So what does all this babbling lead to? Most mountain bikers wear XC style lids most of the time! This left us hoping for a vented helmet mount. Well, Vholdr was aware of this and was working hard behind the scenes and the wait is over!

The mount is similar to those used by Nite-Rider to mount helmet lights.  A dual strap arrangement that loops through your helmet vents.  The mount also has a three-position tilt adjustment feature which is very helpful in getting that picture just right.

We’ll be taking advantage of a break in the busy holiday schedule to squeeze in a ride with our newbies on the Fullerton Loop, I’ll try to take some video with the mount and post the results here.  Stay Tuned!

SKINSUIT DH

Posted by Joe Solancho On December - 26 - 2009

The last few months have been very hectic for me.  I’ve had minimal time on my bikes as well as not being able to contribute to this site.  With the time change and tons of work, it has been a real challenge to get out and ride.

Last Saturday December 19th, I treated myself to a day of riding.  First was in the morning where I met some friends at the famous Fulerton Loop for a relaxing cross country ride.

Later that afternoon, I joined other friends for some downhill fun.  The seven of us met somewhere in Corona and shuttled to the top of the trailhead called Skinsuit.  This was a fast, steep, flowy downhill run that was several miles long.  All the way down we were riding on the spine of the mountain with the view of the city just below us. Just what I needed – an adrenaline rush… and what a blast it was!!!  Below is a video of our ride.

After a double dose of riding, XC & DH, I was temporarily relieved of stress.  One thing for sure, I need to get on my bike more often :)
