Eh, its just broken…No big deal.

The newest member of the MtnBikeRiders.com Race Team, Corey Pond, sent us an email stating that he hurt his hand. We figured it was just a simple sprain, but if you read his story and see his pictures, then you’ll understand that it’s actually busted.-RL Policar

Hey everyone,
Art, myself and some other guys were shuttling a super secret trail last weekend and were destroying it (not literally, but we were going uber fast)…until about 30 seconds into our first run when I crashed. But I got up unharmed and made it down about 30 more seconds when I got shaken off my line and smashed into a tree. It was another fairly painless crash but I looked down and saw that my pinkie was definitely facing the wrong direction.
While driving myself to the ER I was wondering if having a manual tranny was really a wise purchase. Anyways, the doctor said I needed surgery but I opted out of it getting a different doctor to set the bone in place. I go in for follow up x-rays tomorrow to see if I will really need surgery or not. Hopefully I should be good to come back in time for the October race. It’s not all bad though, I can still type faster than Art with one hand.

Well, we’re glad Corey’s injuries aren’t worse, but it sure does suck. Heal up buddy!

Got a new Project!

Posted by RL Policar On August - 26 - 2010

For a while now, I’ve been looking for a 80-90′s mountain bike to tinker with. I lucked out and found this Bianchi Nyala on Craigslist. The seller had it for $50, but I was able to get it for $40.

During my lunch break, I drove down to pick up this guy. I was pretty delighted to see that the bike was actually in decent condition. He had it in his storage unit for the last 5 years collecting dust. In reality, all it needs is some air in the tires, a good washing and lube.

My favorite part of the bike, lugs!

More lugs.

Seeing this sticker made me feel so much better about my purchase.

I have BRAND NEW 7-8Speed cassettes, chains and shifters that might just call this bike, home….

I’m looking forward to this project because its going to be fun to ride a 90′s era steel bike on the trail. Besides, ever since I was a kid, I’ve always wanted a Bianchi.

Weekend Ride Report: Big Bear, CA

Posted by Joe Solancho On August - 26 - 2010

Two weeks ago, I headed up to Mammoth Lakes, CA to ride the big mountain.  I had so much fun that I was jonesing to go back.  On my last Ride Report, I mentioned that I was going back (this past weekend)… didn’t happen :( Like most impromptu decisions things can quickly change.  Several of the guys backed out last minute due to obligations which was totally understandable.

Fortunately for me one of my friends, Neil Adams (single speed stud) invited me to go to Big Bear.  Big Bear is our local mountain getaway, approximately 1.5 hours away.  Back in the day when DH racing was on the rise, many races were held in Snow Summit (one of the two main resorts in Big Bear Lakes). This was no Mammoth, but it’s a lift assisted ride and it sure beats local riding.

Truck packed and ready to go!!!

Several friends met at Neil’s house and off we went at about 6:00am.  At Snow Summit, we met other friends from the bike industry such as 661 and Ellsworth.  Big group riding…

Our group on Saturday 8.21.10

Below is a video from one of our runs.  Unfortunately on most of the video I shot, the mouthpiece of my camelbak was infront of the camera obstructing the view, therefore many of the footage was not usable. Overall, it was a great trip.  I was with great company and at a good place to ride.
