My Birthday Ride!

Big thanks to the MtnBikeRiders.com Crew for putting together a small, yet intimate (more on that later) ride this past Wednesday @ the World Famous Fulerton Loop.

From the left to the right, Cons, Doc Thunda, RL and Priscilla in the back.

Moe graced use with his presence. He’s mad-like training for his Super D races that he plans on dominating. In this photo, Moe is showing off is mind blowing ability to extend his index and pinky fingers. Or he could be showing off how many burritos he had at lunch. Another assumption is he’s showing how many cupcakes he’ll eat later that evening.

Group shot but this time its with Cuh’ Joe.

We had a great ride that evening, plenty of regrouping, and chit-chatting. I was really encouraged to have everyone there that evening to help me celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately, my cyclocross bike got a flat. I’m one of those guys that doesn’t like to carry any of my own tools and tubes. That’s because I know other people will have it, so there’s no need to weigh down my hydration pack and have all that excess baggage slow me down. Lucky for me, Moe had a pump and a 700c tube. With the help of Doc Thunda’s tire lever, we were back on the the trail in just a few minutes.

Remember how I was talking about the ride being “intimate”…here’s what I mean…BUTT SHOTS! Ooooh yeah….that’s what I’m talking about!

Here’s Moe’s awesome glutes.

Doc Thunda getting ready to perform a prostate exam on me, another shot of Moe’s butt! Owww! Sexy!

We ended our ride at the local Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, in which I enjoyed myself a very healthy Carne Asada Salad. We then chased it down with Priscilla’s famous homemade cupcakes! Yup, even the frosting is made from scratch!

Before I close out this posting, have a bit of fun and add a caption to this photo. The best one I came up with was….

“Moe found what Cons was hiding…”

Did you know that women dig a man that works out?

Posted by RL Policar On January - 27 - 2011

Based on some scientific research I did, 90% of ALL women questioned stated that they are not opposed to their husband/boyfriend working out. In fact, the women surveyed said that they are more impressed with their man if he did some sort of physical activity.

So what does this mean to you? Well…if you’re wife/girlfriend is the kind that hates it when you go mountain biking with your buddies, just explain to her that you’re going to “work out.”

Platform Pedals or SPD?

Posted by RL Policar On January - 26 - 2011

The race team has a mix of riders who like to be clipped in with some sort of SPD style pedal as well as the guys who use platform pedals.

Here’s Team Racer Corey Pond using SPD pedals.

Team Racer, Joe Solancho using flat pedals.

So the question is, which is better? SPD or Platform?

Personally I’ve tried both. When I first started downhill mountain biking, I used flat pedals and I found that I didn’t have full control of the bike. I assume that I’ve grown accustomed to using my cleats to pull of on the bike when needed (make sense?) I also didn’t like how my feet would come off the pedals if I hit a bump. But the benefit of having platform pedals was getting your foot in and out quicker. It’s useful when you’re trying to prevent a crash or need your foot to catch you if you wash out.

To Wash or To Wipe Down Your Bike?

Posted by RL Policar On January - 26 - 2011

After posting this video “How I wash my Bike”; two different schools of thought came about. 1 says, “Yes I wash my bike with a hose…” the other side says, “”Hells no sucka! I use is bottled bike wash and wipe it down!”

I kinda flip flop back and forth on this one for one reason, you see, I have no hose in my garage or near it, so that leads me to use the Finishline Bike Wash about 60% of the time. However, I’d much prefer to use a citrus degreaser and a water hose to clean of my bikes.

So I’m curious to know, what other riders do; hose or spray bottle?
