KHS Lucky 7

A KHS Lucky 7 that is! Our good friends from KHS Bicycles have given us a Lucky 7 to review and race. The Lucky Seven happens to be the KHS Factory Team weapon of choice for the Fontana Series, they choose this bike because of the infamous “wall”.

The Lucky 7 comes with a 36/24t crankset so you are able to pedal down that “wall”

We will be putting the Lucky 7 to test on the remaining races at Southridge, stay tuned for our reports.

My New Ibex Ignition Frame

Posted by RL Policar On February - 4 - 2009

I recently received a new frame from the folks at Ibex Bikes. Not that there was anything wrong with my green frame that resulted in a replacement, but Ibex wanted me to try out their new rig because it has been reinforced. So what’s the best way to test a reinforced frame…Downhill!

As some of you may know, I’ve used my old Ibex Ignition as my DH rig and shoot…even got a first place with it. Though the Ignition is marketed as an “ALL Mountain,” I’ve set it up so it can handle the Southridge Winter Series.

Here’s a gander of the new frame. It’s a nice matte black…pretty stealth eh? I really love the lines on the Ignition. The frame looks like a hard tail since the rocker arms are tucked between the seat and top tubes.

The Ignition is equipped with a Marz 66Light fork for soaking up big boulders and drops.

Ultegra cassette, XT rear derailleur. Oh and yes, those are Nokon Cables.

Manitou Metel coil over shock, Pink Jagwire derailleur cable/housing. By the way, the big 44t chain ring, it helps with the WALL at Southridge.

Last but not least, I can’t forget about my favorite accessory.

I had already ridden the new Ignition frame at the Southridge DH course over the weekend and this thing is super smooth. The rear shock makes a huge difference from the prior air shock I had. So wish me luck as I go back this Sunday to race DH and hopefully make it back in one piece.

Exclusive: Sette Vexx Downhill bike Sneak Peek

Posted by Moe Ramirez On January - 28 - 2009

Our good friends from PricePoint.com let us take some pictures of a pre-production Downhill bicycle.

As you can see, this bike was raced last weekend at Fontana, its talented rider took 2nd place on his first ever downhill race. Now, that’s pretty impressive!

We will be posting final specs and pricing soon, but let’s just say that this bike will be very affordable and will have decent parts like the RockShox Boxxer Race fork , e-thirteen chainguide, Hussefelt Cranks, and a RockShox Vivid rear shock.

The Moe’s Race Report: SR Winter Series #2

Posted by Moe Ramirez On January - 26 - 2009

Under the threat of rain, most of TeamMtnBikeRiders.com gathered under a couple of ez-ups and got ready to race. Saturday was my turn to be Señor Team Manager since RL was out on a retreat, that meant I had to be the photographer and race support.

As usual, the XC racers gave it 110% percent and were able to bring home some trophies. Joe (doing double duty) and I raced SuperD, this time, the course featured 3 climbs including ‘Sandbagger’s hill’. The rest of the course included parts of the XC course and a little of the Downhill.

Order No: 4377964

I’ve been getting out of work late so I didn’t have any time to ride for 2 weeks, it definitely showed; I was sucking wind on the second uphill and lost a lot of time on sandbagger’s hill. I also rode more conservatively this time, I still have some of the scabs from the last time that I raced. I ended placing 8th, not one of my best races, but it was a fun ride.

For me, Saturday’s highlight was my 8yr old girl entering her first ‘race’. She was racing on a KHS Raptor, a sweet 1X7 kids MTB.

Although she had an unfortunate fall, she bravely got up and finished up the race, she was really happy about her first MTB race medal. Look out Priscilla, she will be taking your place on the podium!

We thought that Sunday was going to be a dry day, it was, sort of… a quick rain shower (dust control according to the PA announcer) left the trail nice and tacky. Unfortunately I only had time for one practice run, but I was a little more confident since I’ve raced DH before and the KHS DH200 is a superb bicycle that compensates for my lack of skill.

If you would have told me 2 months ago that I would be racing Downhill, I would have laughed and said hell no, I’m not that Nucking Futs…. But thanks to my buddy Vince Calvillo for having the confidence of letting me ride the DH200, I was rewarded with making it down the hill in one piece and I achieved a 5th place podium finish.

My personal goal was to make it to the podium since I was the only MtnBikeRiders.com rider that had not achieved taking some bling home. Well, I finally did it, although I was surprised to have done it on a Downhill race instead of SuperD.

Big thanks to the MtnBikeRiders.com team, KHS bicycles, Evomo.com, HossMTB, Ergon and PricePoint.com for their support.
