Almost All Mountain

Posted by RL Policar On May - 29 - 2007

One of my favorite bikes is the Woodstock 707. I love how this bike rides. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t like to lean too far forward on my bike. Some would say that is how XC riders ride.

But for me, having short stubby arms, I require an All Mountain set up. You’ve seen it with long travel bikes where the rider sits at a more upright position. The 707 that we have is a small, but its rather perfect for Moe, Priscilla and myself. Priscilla is about 5’6″ and Moe and I, on a good day about 5’7″.

Going back to the All Mountain Set up. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m guessing the rear suspension travel is about 4 inches, and it’s stock Manitou Axel was at 100mm (4 inches). With the stock set up, the bike is considered a cross country bike. But with the aid of a new Marzocchi Bomber fork that has 5 inches, I’m able to get pretty close to that “All Mountain” feel that I’ve been looking for.

The Woodstock 707 really is a fun bike, if you lower the seat before going down hills, you’ve got yourself a bike that can not only take on the trails, but its easy to handle.

Chain Cleaning, Fat Tire Style

Posted by RL Policar On May - 28 - 2007

This weekend I drank my share of Fat Tire Ale that could last me for a few days. So I wondered what I should do with some of the bottles left over. So I figured I’d do a little project with one of my bottles.

Step 1. Take an old Fat Tire Ale Bottle and your favorite degreaser. Then pour some degreaser, about an inch or so of fluid.

Step 2. Drop your greasy or old rusty chain in.

Step3. Place your thumb over the opening and shake it!

Shake it a few minutes, swirl it a bit and once you’re ready pour out the degreaser and pull the chain out. You’ll find that it does a great job in getting your dirt and grim out!

Me and the Woody are BBF…Best Biking Friends

Posted by RL Policar On May - 13 - 2007

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but Woodstock Bikes is allowing me to keep the 707 to let me do more things to it. A few days ago you saw me do a posting on how I installed a new fork, Marzocchi Bomber with ETA and a new front tire, Kenda Kinetic 2.6!

I test rode the bike with its new front end on our Mother’s Day Ride and surprisingly this bike handled really well even with that big honking tire in the front.

Climbing wasn’t anything different. In fact, it was actually better since the Marzochhi fork has a lock out which not only prevents you from bobbing, but it also compresses down to 80mm when in that mode.

Now going down the hills is another story…the Woodstock 707 has some big balls! Seriously, this bike is Uber fun! With the new set up the 707 quickly made me forget about the other demo bikes we tested. The fit is great, suspension works awesome, component are right on cue….Man I’m starting to fall in love with this bike!

I’m actually thinking about getting this bad boy painted….a gun metal grey. At first I wanted a powder blue…but after seeing how this sucker rides, It needs a manly, beastly, psycho killer look!

More Woodstock 707 Upgrades

Posted by RL Policar On May - 10 - 2007

This evening I spent some time in the garage doing some work on the Woodstock 707. I’ve installed the Marzocchi Bomber fork that has 5 1/2 inches of travel and lockout. I also slapped on this mondo large front tire. What you’re seeing is a 2.6 Kenda Kinetic DH tire.

I’ll let you all know how this feels, I have a feeling that it would be sluggish with this honkin’ tire. But I figured it would be fun to try!
