Suspension Tuning – Fox Factory Pro-Tune

Suspension tuning is as diverse as the disciplines of mountain biking.  Some people constantly tune and tweak while others are afraid to touch the settings on these magical little items.

Well, if you fall into the later camp Fox has developed a website to help you do an initial setup of your forks and shock.  This includes videos on sag, rebound, compression and finally bracketing your settings.  Bracketing is basically testing adjustments at the top and bottom end of the adjustment spectrum.    Unfortunately, Fox doesn’t take advantage of the site to provide baseline settings based on weight, riding style etc.  Fox does use the site as a massive advertisement for their Protune service.  Overall the videos are a useful introduction to suspension tuning.

Sea Otter 2009: Fox F29 15mm

Posted by Jeremy Yang On April - 20 - 2009

I came upon a bike with the Fox F29 in 15mm form. This is Fox’s new change to their highly regarded F29 fork specifically built for 29ers. The 15mm is a design between Fox and Shimano designed to be stiffer than the normal quick release, but lighter than the 20mm thru axle. I got a couple of pictures of the F29 mounted on a bike and wanted to share them with you. The bike the Fox was mounted on will be discussed in more detail later this week.

Shimano XT 15mm hub

F29 with Fox’s proprietary 15mm thru axle

Comes with FIT Technology which to non-techies = RP23 for the fork

The bike was not available for demo so no thoughts on the fork. We do have leaked 2010 info on these forks here.

Interbike 2008: Long travel 29er forks

Posted by Joe Solancho On October - 2 - 2008

Since the breakout of the 29ers into the 26” world, long travel 29er forks have only been seen on a “wish list”.  There were several in existence, but for 2009 – Ask and you shall receive!

At Interbike 2008 there were an abundance of 5-6” travel forks.  Although some were labeled as prototypes, the idea to progress more than 4” is here.

Check out some of the 29er long travel forks from various makers:
