Chainlove & 661 Evolution Carbon Preview

See that Chainlove ad on the right hand side of the mtnbikeriders.com webpage?  Well they’re legit, the real deal and a good place to get a screaming deal.  How do I know?  Well I scored myself a set of 661 Tomcat knee pads for $27 one day and this sweet Evolution Carbon helmet for $140!

I even returned an Evolution Legend (fiberglass) helmet, size large that didn’t fit my big fat head. It was no hassle, no questions!  All I had to do was set up the return on the Chainlove website.  I picked the option to print out a return UPS shipping label, threw it on the box the helmet came in and off it went.

Okay enough Chainlove love. The Evo Carbon helmet is definitely light and looks like it’ll breath well.  It meets ASTM 1952 and CPSC standards for bicycle helmets.  Note, this is not a DOT approved helmet, meaning no motorcycle use for it!  I suspect that this is part of why the helmet is SO much lighter than my current Fox helmet.

I decided to get a lightweight full face after my recent trip to Big Bear.  I wore my usual helmet (Bell Variant) and felt under-protected on some of the gnarlier poacher trails.  However I just did not feel like dealing with the size and weight of my Moto-X helmet.  It’s big, heavy and more than I need on my bicycle.  I’ll be giving this helmet the full shakedown over the next couple months and post the results here.
