Why you should check your helmet after a crash

Not too long ago one of my friends asked if I could let one of his cow0rkers borrow a helmet since he didn’t have one. I obliged and handed him one of my better helmets. We go riding then this friend ends up crashing pretty bad. He quickly got up and said he was ok and we kept going.  Mind you this incident was about 2 months ago.

Helmet looks great from the outside…

Fast forward to last week, I wanted to wear this same helmet he borrowed because it was a warm day and the vents would be a great thing to have during the ride. So I grab the said helmet to go wash it and noticed a crack.

First crack. This is the side where he hit his head.

I also kept looking and found other cracks to the helmet.

Another crack.

Fortunately this guy WAS wearing the helmet, I can’t even begin to imagine how bad that crash could have been if he decided to ride without one. So the moral to this story is pretty much wear a helmet, but when you do crash, make sure you check it out thoroughly because once it’s cracked its no longer any good to you.
