Lance has a good point, being courteous with hikers and horse riders is a must for Mountain Bikers. Here’s what RL and I ride with:
A cowbell. This little cowbell alerts hikers and other riders that we are coming. We’ve been praised by both hikers and riders for riding with it. Yes, it can get annoying at times, but it is certainly a very useful accessory. So where do you get them? The Kona bells are hard to find, however, if you ever see me at the trailhead I will give you one for free by simply telling me “I’m a Mountain Bike Rider”. Please note that the free bells are slightly larger than the one that is pictured.
