Trail Etiquette

I’ve been wanting to come up with an article chock full of trail etiquette reminders for our readers to benefit from. So far I’ve got a few good ones.

But I wanted to add a few more. Feel free to leave a comment to add your own.

1. If you’re going to be late to a group ride, call someone and let them know to start without you and that you’ll catch up to them on the trail.

2. If one person in your group gets a flat tire, stop and help them. Let the rest of the group go while you and the flatee (if that’s even a word) fix the tire.

3. If you see someone hitting the wall or bonking, offer a GU or nutrition bar.

4. Be sensitive to those that haven’t ridden in a while. Don’t go balls out on the trail and leave them behind. That could discourage the newish rider.

5. Say good morning or hello to everyone on the trail.

6. When you see horses, stop your bike and let them pass.

7. When you see someone broken down, ask if they need help.

8. Be patient with slower or inexperienced riders.

9. Don’t spook the nice ladies walking the trails. Ring your bell or greet them far enough behind them so they know your care coming.

10. Rather than staring at the dude’s bike and making comments to your buddy, go up to the owner and introduce yourself. Ask them about their bike. Heck you might just make a new friend out of it.
