Did you call me a weight weenie?

As I was riding out with some girls last week they were asking how I like my IBEX trophy. I love my bike! Of all the bikes I have ridden, it just feels so light. The lighter the bike the more control I feel that I have. So one of the girls proceeded to lift my bike, and she couldn’t believe how heavy it was. I wasn’t sure how much it weighed but after I lifted her Kona I knew exactly what she was talking about. She said her bike weighed 25lbs!

So of course I ran home and asked RL to weigh my bike for me. Dang! That sucker weighed 34lbs! Oh man! No wonder she rides so fast up those hills. I wanted to know what the difference would be without the extra weight.

So I put in an order with the resident wrench (my hubby) to lighten up my baby for me.

Sure enough he took care of it. RL removed the heavy duty tubes, and replaced the wheel set with Sun XC rims. These small changes lifted about 4lbs off my bike! Not bad. We’re down to 30lbs now. I could stand to shave off a few more but for now I am happy with the difference.

I tested out my new slimmer ride this past Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised! I could feel the difference climbing the hills. The climbs were more efficient and a tad quicker. I didn’t feel like I was exerting so much energy climbing. I would love to know what I could do with 5 less pounds on my bike! Or maybe I could just lose 5 more pounds myself.

So yeah, you can call me a weight weenie now. That’s ok with me. Go ahead and yell it at me as I pass you up on that hill!
