Take a Stand…Sette Workstand Review

After years of seeing me struggle to wrench on my bike with a pathetic bike stand that simply lifts the rear of the bike a few inches off the ground, my better half surprised me with a new Workstand for our anniversary. With advise from our family friend and rider extraordinaire Jer, she bought me the Sette ST-7 Foldable Workstand. Man did I ever need this thing!

The stand came well packaged and without a blemish. It unfolded perfectly without a hitch and set up quickly. The first thing that stood out was its robust look and understated scheme. The locking jaw has a big rubber clamp so it will not scratch the frame and it rotates 360 degrees. The height is adjustable from 38-59 inches as mountain bikers come in all shapes and sizes. It is made of steel tubing for longevity and can hold your bike either by the seat post or the top tube. When it folds up it is very compact for sliding under your bed like the AB machine info-mercials.

I actually enjoy wrenching on my bike and this stand has really helped me. I feel like a “real” bike mechanic while in the garage wrenching on the bike. The price is right at $100 and is certainly a great value. I would recommend this stand to anyone looking for a very functional stand at a good price point. For $15 more you can get the same stand with a tool tray and tote bag, this is the deal I would do right now if I were in the market for a workstand. The tool tray can be bought separately (which I plan on doing) and is definitely a must. I am tired of setting my tools on the ground or trying to balance them on the bike while mounted in the stand. In the end, if your an Mtb’r and you enjoy wrenching on your bike, you gotta “take a stand”.

Review: Sette ST-7 DLX Workstand w/Tray and Tote bag

Posted by Joe Solancho On November - 20 - 2008

Back in June we received the Sette ST-7 workstand from Price Point.  For many cyclists who are wrench-at-home guys/gals, the ST-7 is the perfect addition to your tools.  Not only is it compact, it is fully adjustable to various heights and head angles.  It can accommodate different types of bikes (road/mtn).  It is also handy when cleaning your bike and is easy to store.  To top it off, it has a very reasonable price tag.

The Stand: The ST-7 is constructed out of tubular steel frame.   Very durable that can withstand heavy bikes.  Although a weight limit is not listed on the specs, it held my 40+ lbs Intense SOCOM downhill bike without any problems.  As stated above the stand is adjustable in height.  The tallest setting is at 59”.  Its locking clamp is padded and can be rotated 360°.   It utilizes QR (quick release)locking mechanism at three major areas on the stand – folding, height adjustment and the head.

Accessories:  Included with this package is a heavy duty padded nylon bag. It has external pockets for small accessories and for the foldable tray (also included).  With the bag you can transport the stand with ease from your garage to the races, or anywhere else you would like.  It has an adjustable shoulder strap.  The ST-7 collapses to a mere 38”.

Also included is a work tray.  It is a half-circle in shape and folds for storage/transport.  It has several compartments for miscellaneous parts and 20 slots for various tools.  This can be mounted directly onto the stand via metal fasteners.

In the beginning I did have issues when I mounted one of my heavier bikes.  After several minutes I would find the main shaft slipping or lowering in height.  This happened as well when I torqued on my crank installation.  After securely tightening the QR clamp, I haven’t had any problems since.  I would recommend that if you store your stand regularly after use or often transport to races, securely tighten the QRs after each set-up (before use).  Just like the QRs on your bike, you want to ensure that it is tight.

After several months of putting the ST-7 to use, it has definitely held up well.  With regular maintenance and cleaning at home; and regular trips to the races, I haven’t had any issues.  I’ve mounted various bikes on the ST-7, weight ranging from 25 – 40+ lbs.  It has work flawlessly… it’s perfect!

If you are looking for a great quality stand and not willing to pay the higher priced name brands, the Sette ST-7 is the one!  This can be a perfect gift for the coming Holidays

First Impressions: Sette ST-7 DLX Workstand w/Tray and Tote bag.

The cool people at Pricepoint sent us the Sette ST-7 workstand for review. As a wrench-at-home guy and a part-time racer I have been given the task to put this product to the test.  The following are my first impressions of the stand.  Off the bat when I opened the box, I noticed how compact it was folded – 38?.  This is a plus for storage and when transporting during races.  Also included were a heavy duty bag and a tool tray – another plus!  The bag is made out of nylon with carrying straps and pockets on the outside.  The tray has several compartments for miscellaneous parts and slots for various tools.  This can be mounted directly onto the stand.  All this for just $114.98.

As I opened the stand to its full size, I noticed that tubes were constructed of steel frame.  This is perfect for strength and durability as consumers will have a variety of bikes which differ in weight.  The stand is fully adjustable in height; the tallest setting at 59?.  This will be great for the short and tall folks.

The locking clamp is padded and can be rotated 360° (which again will accommodate a variety of bikes/frames) and can also position the bike at different angles.  It utilizes QR (quick releases) locking mechanism at three major areas on the stand – unfolding, height adjustment and the head.

So far I’ve only mounted two bikes on the ST-7.  One is 27 lbs and the other is a 35 lbs All-Mtn bike.  Thus far it has remained sturdy with no issues.  There was one instance where the 35 pounder caused the main tube of the stand to slip to a lower height.  Apparently the QR clamp for height adjustment wasn’t tight enough.  Once I re-tightened the QR, I haven’t had any issues.

The stand will be put a lot of use in the next few moths.  I frequently work on my bikes at home and attend races.  I’ve yet to mount my 40 lbs DH bike on it.  Stay tuned for a full review on the Sette ST-7 DLX Foldable Workstand.  In the mean time for more information here is the link to the site.
