The Moe’s Inspiratonal reflections

Posted by Moe Ramirez On December - 5 - 2011

Now that The Moe has all this time on his hands because he does not have to train to race, he has found his new calling:

Inspirational Mountain Biker
Inspiration

It all came to me after last week’s ride. One of our riding buddies stated that he wouldn’t have ridden if it wasn’t because The Moe was there. At the same time, another buddy of ours confessed that he convinced his wife to ride with us because The Moe was going to ride.

“Where is that darn shuttle????”

What caused all of these riders to be inspired to ride with The Moe? It is all because of his trademarked pace: SlowMoetion. They knew that they didn’t have to worry about blasting down a hill yelling “Rider Up” “Rider Up” while going the opposite direction. They knew that the pace will not cause them to vomit or get cramps. They knew that they will not run out of water because they wouldn’t break a sweat. They also knew that there was a high possibility that The Moe would take a shortcut so he could go eat before the restaurant closed.

“mmm, I’m glad that The Moe took that shorcut!”

Yes folks, that IS inspiration. Think about it.. what are your chances of being a bad ass rider like Tinker Juarez? or Steve Peat? or Sabrina Joyner? However, being like The Moe is easy… grab your bike, hop on and ride and if your buddies give you crap for waiting for you at the top of the hill, just tell them “I was a DH racer at one point, I shuttled”

Fun is Fun!

Posted by RL Policar On November - 22 - 2011

This past weekend Priscilla and I called up the troops to see if they’d like to join us at Aliso Woods for a super fun, easy paced ride. This venue has to be one of our favorite places to ride. It offers so much as far as variety in the type of trails out there. One can chose to go DH while another can do XC. But on our ride, we stuck with XC riding.

Our planned route was to hit some of our favorite trails. For Nick and Mark, Lynx was something they’ve never tried. So we made sure we hit it as our first descent.

Priscilla was celebrating her birthday that weekend. She took some great photos of the trip. Here’s one where I’m looking for a snack in her hydration pack.

Here’s some of the pictures she took. I love my EVEL jersey.

Doc Thunda showing that he has 5 fingers on his hand. Mind you, one of them is fake. He lost a finger during the great war in Romania.

Did you know the new iPhone 4s takes some amazing photos?

In this shot I was showing Mark where babies come from.

Nick is my new stalking buddy. Ever since he signed up for Latitude, I’ve been stalking him. Sometimes if I see that he’s only a few miles from me, I’ll drive over to where he’s at and just watch him.

I love this photo because it shows of our jerseys being worn by 2 of the manilest men I know! Don’t they look hot!

I busted out the Drift helmet cam and captured what you’ll see below.

What to wear…what to wear?

Posted by RL Policar On November - 17 - 2011

On the morning of your ride, do you ever stand there like a chick and ask yourself….”hmm what should I wear?” If you’re anything like me, you’ve got more jerseys than regular “civilian” clothing.

The dilemma is trying to figure out which jersey/shorts and socks would be appropriate for the ride. Personally I like to make sure I have some what of a matching look. I try not to clash my colors and I wear the appropriate helmet to complete the look. Oh and I also have my eyewear in mind while I’m doing this. The proper color of eye wear is like a cherry on top.

One of the best dressed riders I know is The Moe. Not only does he coordinate with his clothing. But many times he will match his bike!

But what do you do when your jersey doesn’t match your bike or anything you own? Let’s take a look at Team Racer Corey Pond. He’s wearing Art Aguilar’s jersey because he spent the night at Art’s place and couldn’t find anything to wear. Anyhow, if the jersey is so loud, then wear shorts and accessories that highlight the color of the accents of the designs in the jersey.

Below is a great example of how Art and Wes wear things to accentuate the small details of their jerseys.Notice how Art is wearing a black beanie with the white MtnBikeRiders.com logo…adds a nice touch to the whole package. Then we have Wes who is wearing a matching hat to the jersey. Plus he’s got black eyewear on to finish off the look.

So what’s the point of this article? Simple, looking good is half the effort in mountain biking. Heck if Roadies and dirtbike guys do it with their outfits, why can’t mountain bikers!

Crazy Socks and Cupcakes

Posted by RL Policar On November - 17 - 2011

Wednesday was Priscilla’s Crazy Sock Birthday Ride. We gathered the usual suspects, minus Doc Thunda, he said something about having to go to Laguna Beach to get custom fitted for skinny jeans. Anyhow, the point of having a Crazy Sock ride is to wear CRAZY SOCKS! Well I have some good news, the crew showed up in their best rendition of crazy socks!

Priscilla and yours truly. Yes those are Ninjas on Priscilla’s socks. I know right…super cool!

One of the things we love about riding at night is that it makes a familiar trail feel so foreign. Moe once said, “I like riding at night because it kinda reminds me of the time when I touched myself with my non-dominant hand and it felt like a stranger was doing it…” Um…ya I guess that would be the best way to describe riding at night.

This was pretty much our view of the night. Dan Burdett rides as if he had way too many Redbulls. The guy has non-stop energy!

Megan and Priscilla. Notice Priscilla and Asian peace sign for the photo. We deemed that was appropriate due to the socks she was wearing. See above for sock photo.

After our brisk ride, we decided to get some grub at a local bar called Roscoe’s. Funny almost every ride we go on, we end up eating at Wahoo’s and Doc Thunda is always complaining that he wants to go to Roscoe’s instead. So the night we go, he doesn’t even show up….

I’d like to close out with this photo. Khoa was showing of his newest toy for his “chick-magnet”, the new iPhone 4s. He recently got this UBER expensive fish-eye lens for his phone and said that it was so expensive that it cost more than a carbon fiber snowboard. But that’s how he rolls, and and by the way, ladies, he’s totally single! Plus he’s a home owner with no debt and has a stable career. So if you’re interested in his contact info, just let us know by leaving a comment below. What you see is a photo that he took with his new fandangled fish eye lens. This photo now looks expensive!

Well that was about it for our Crazy Sock Ride. We had a great time as usual and always love the company we keep when we go on these fun stress relieving rides. By the way, Happy Birthday to Priscilla, the woman of my dreams. She’s always been a huge supporter for MtnBikeRiders.com and has allowed me to do what I do for the sites without complaining. She is also my favorite riding partner!

It’s the weekend…the trails are calling your name

Posted by RL Policar On November - 11 - 2011

They’re saying, “Hey tubby! I bet you can’t ride me….you’re too soft and pudgy to go fast on me…” You going to let the trail talk smack on you? Psssh don’t let it bully you! Get out there this weekend and RIDE!
